JOB TITLE: Seasonings Chemist/Technologist

Hands On Food Technologist (within the Research & Development team of 3) Responsible for:
New product development, formulations, applications, research projects, sensory evaluations
and maintenance of existing products. This individual must operate effectively both
independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment. The ability to carefully
follow instructions and adapt quickly to shifting priorities is essential. Good critical
thinking and communication skills are a must.
Experience in matching, sensory and raw material evaluation.
Experience in protein foods, refrigerated foods and snack seasonings a plus.
Provide technical service and support to customers and internally to Manufacturing,
Sales, Marketing, Purchasing
and Quality Control as required to generate and maintain sales to Industrial and Food Service accounts;
Advancing projects with attention to quality, speed and accuracy
Spearheading the development of assigned projects
Using and maintaining laboratory and kitchen equipment
Delivering against multiple tight deadlines
Preparing food products using simple cooking techniques
Tasting and effectively communicating feedback during sensory evaluation
Supporting teammates as needed
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Maintain close contact with the research and technical groups of
potential and existing customers.
Monitor the food industry for new developments and trends.
Develop or modify seasoning blends to meet the parameters of Marketing Department or customer.
Optimize seasoning blends for quality and profitability.
Plan, organize, complete research, & properly document the ingredients or
processes for seasoning projects.
Provide technical assistance in resolution of customer complaints.
Evaluate alternate ingredient suppliers.
Investigate and recommend use of excess, aged, or discrepant ingredients,
spices and seasoning blends.
Provide technical information for use in marketing handouts.
Maintain contacts with food ingredient suppliers.
Monitor the seasoning blends, as mixed, for manufacturability i.e.
dustiness, stratification, clarity of mixing instructions.
Supervise first-time and other production seasoning batches.
Write ingredient statements and specifications for seasoning blends.
Travel, as required, with sales managers and directors to meet customers, perform
product demonstrations or attend conventions.
Maintain office, lab, inventory areas and equipment in a safe, clean, neat
and orderly manner.
Maintain properly labeled, current inventory of ingredients and spices.
Order from inventory or vendors the ingredients, spices and other supplies necessary
to do research.
Follow Good Manufacturing Practices and Standard Operating Procedures when generating samples.
Verify with QC the suitability for use of ingredients, spices and blends.
Answer questions regarding the status of projects submitted.
SKILLS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Science, Chemistry or a related field MUST HAVE SEASONING EXPERIENCE.
INTER-RELATIONS Contact with customers, other Food Scientist, Sales,
Customer Service, Manufacturing, Quality Control, Purchasing and Marketing
personnel plus outside vendors.
