JO 15500 Business Development Manager – Nutrition


1 hr North of Chicago, IL (relocation assistance provided)

Salary Range:

$Six-figure base + 10% bonus


The Business Development Manager manages the execution of business plans and new product development plans in support of the strategic plan for the Company. The position manages the Nutrition product portfolio, synthesizing customer and market needs and translating those needs to product and technologies from the Company. The Business Development Manager contributes to the commercialization of products and technologies. This position works with Sales, Marketing, Flavor Creation & Applications and Research to provide sustained profitable growth in the Nutrition category. Reports to the VP of Sales & Marketing.


·         Manages the three year business plans for the Nutrition business focusing on identified growth segments.

·         Monitors the product line for Nutrition: cost/margins, forecasts, pricing, research & development, marketing, vs. outlined goals.

·         Responsible for growing key growth segments, confirming the market landscape for Company products; working with sales on project opportunities and product needs, then communicating the requirements of these market segments to Research & Development and senior leadership.

·         Develops expertise in Nutrition industry trends to ensure the Company’s product portfolio is competitive and market wise.

·         Manages the project pipeline for Nutrition. Prioritize projects gaining input from Sales Directors& Technical Director where required.

·         Work with Account Managers and Sales Directors to develop and execute strategies at target accounts

·         Responsible for providing the sales team with the necessary expertise to enable them to sell the product. This involves printed and electronic promotional material, product training, etc.

·         Represent the company and the product lines at industry trade shows and conferences, as well as at key customer presentations.

·         Establishes and communicates the price guidelines for the Category responsible for the strategic pricing of new technologies and customer annual contracts with input from the VP Sales.

Required Experience::

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Chemistry or Marketing (with strong technical acumen)

·         3+ years job related experience in product management, marketing, and/or sales in the food, nutrition ingredients and/or flavor industry.

·         Experience in new product development from conception to market launch.

·         Project Management experience in leading a project team or heavy participation on a project team

·         Budgeting and forecasting experience.

·         Strong product development, strategic planning, marketing, and project management skills.

·         Leadership qualities and strong presence.  Above-average presentation skills are required, as are excellent verbal and written communication skills. Outstanding interpersonal skills with potential to influence cross-functional team members, as well as senior management.

·         Knowledge of the flavor and food ingredient marketplace; as it relates to nutrition a plus.

·         Excellent customer focus, cross-cultural communication, organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills.

·         Team player who enjoys customer contact.

·         Self-starter with high energy level and ability to think and act strategically in a fast paced environment.

·         Willingness to travel at short notice and on a regular basis (up to 25%)

·         Highly proficient with Micro Soft platform- Power Point, Excel in particular.
