Summary:

This key position will be responsible for coordinating all Plant Food Safety and Quality activities. This position reports to the Director of Quality and closely interacts with QMS Coordinator.

·         Supervises Plant Quality Lab Technicians and manages all QA activities in the lab as well as on the floor

·         Manages, trains, and directs all plant personnel on GMPs, Food Safety and Quality prerequisite programs (PRPs) and other programs as necessary.  

·         Leads HACCP team at FDLW location and direct activities of HACCP team, CAPA system and audits.

·         Reports to the Director of Quality and works closely with QMS Coordinator.

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:


The Quality Supervisor is responsible for product safety and quality while meeting ACUSA and regulatory standards, and has oversight responsibility for a continuous quality improvement program that includes quality control and quality assurance. This person is responsible for ensuring that the production and distribution of products meets or exceeds all quality standards. This person also has responsibility for communicating quality results and the transfer of quality and QA knowledge to the workforce.  

·         Manages the operation of the plant laboratory, including ensuring supplies and equipment are available for use.

·         Lead audits by the following agencies: CDFA, FDA, Army Dept. Of Veterinary Medicine and by the third parties: BRC/SQF, customers, co-packers etc.

·         Ensures product safety and quality, regulatory compliance, and compliance with company standards as stated in the Company Quality Manual, Laboratory Manual, and Company Policy and Programs by inspecting and auditing the product, process and all systems.

·         Assists in Operational Continuous Improvement efforts in product quality/performance and process optimization. 

·         Provides leadership in coaching, education and training of plant employees (new hires) and refresher training (current employees) for GMPs, PRPs and other programs. 

·         Provides Customer inputs into portals provided as required, and views/monitors postings to ensure all requirements are met.

·         Reviews all product labels used in the facility and ensures adherence to regulatory and Company standards.

·         Maintains the QA related Database Systems for the facility (LIMS, etc). 

·         Performs and/or supervises the appropriate chemical, micro, sensory and physical tests on raw materials and finished products, implements the environmental testing program for food contact and non food contact surfaces, implements the Listeria release program for finished products, and tests air quality.

·         Communicates quality metrics and inspection results to appropriate Supervisors, LELs and others in leadership positions including, but not limited to daily, weekly or monthly KPI reporting to Corporate.

·         Ensures that proper sanitation procedures are utilized and that adequate sanitation tests are performed; provides “troubleshooting” efforts in the event of sanitation system failure. 

·         Works collaboratively with other departments in the organization such as Sales, Supply Chain, Operations and R&D as needed.

·         Handles external testing requests from customers.

·         Maintains Hold/Release program, product dispositions and CAPA system.

·         Maintain local FSQM system and provides reports including export documentation to QMS Coordinator.

·         Verify CoAs on all incoming raw materials, prepares product specifications per customer request.

·         Develops and Implements HACCP, GMP and PRP procedures making sure that the operation of Quality policies and procedures are effective by internal audits.

·         Ensures plant training in HACCP, Food Safety, Food Defense, GMPs and Hygiene, Group program and policies, FSQM system and product quality is performed regularly and as needed.

·         Maintains Quality Control expenses within budget.

·         Leads by example with the ACUSA Code of Ethics.  This includes following Company policies, standards and specifications.

·         Engages in the typical responsibilities of a Supervisor requiring planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating and delegating.

·         Must be open to work weekends and second shift as needed.

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications,
Experience,
and Skills:


Four year degree Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology, Microbiology or Dairy Science with a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in a Food Safety and quality laboratory.

·         Working knowledge of HACCP, GMP, Food Safety Management System and GFSI audits is required.

·         Dairy experience is required.

·         Possesses a working knowledge of sanitation systems (CIP), techniques and procedures.

·         Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices.

·         Ability to follow all Food Safety and Quality Policies and Procedures, and report and follow through on any deficiencies.

·         Experience in writing reports, employee training and corporate presentations

·         Familiarity with applicable state and federal regulations required

·         Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs; ability to lead others through change. 

·         Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

·         Skill in organization and prioritization, and attention to detail.  

·         Strong team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines.  

·         Ability to select, coach, develop, engage, and retain a team of employees. 

·         Strong interpersonal, communication and team building skills required

·         Proficient in Microsoft Office, SAP, LIMS and other computer programs.
