JO 15535 PLC Automation Specialist

Reports to:

Maintenance Manager


The PLC Automation Specialist will perform a variety of tasks that requires knowledge of PLC, HMI, supervision, and analog control systems with minimal guidance and support from the Maintenance Manager. Responsible for plant integrated control systems.


         Maintain the PLC infrastructure with respect to completing new projects, preventative maintenance requirements and system updates in a timely manner under the guide of the Company Management.

         Observe mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems, using precision measuring and testing instruments.

         Complete electrical repair involving motors (AC, DC, Multi-Phase), controls and other electrical equipment.

         Check stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.

         Complete reasonable job layouts and ordering of materials necessary to complete job.

         Accurately complete work orders and PMs.

         Maintain clean and organized work area.

         Maintain open line of communication with all maintenance staff and managers.

         Attend departmental meeting and training as assigned by the manager.

         Perform other work duties as assigned.

Safety of

         Apply the safety rules and ensure they are implemented and followed.

         Participate in analyzing occupational hazards.

         Prevent potential risks.

         Take necessary measures if people are performing unsafe acts or are in an unsafe environment.


         Follow quality programs to ensure the quality and specifications of products are continually met.

         Alert his/her supervisor or/and manager when there is deviation from quality policies and standards

Food Safety:

         Follow food safety programs throughout the entire plant.

         Responsible to complete form #RF MAINT 001 when working in a product contact area (when products are present).

         Alert the manager when there is deviation from food safety policies and standards.


         Comply with all Company Policies and Procedures.



         Education: Technical Degree in Technical/Engineering discipline preferred.

         Experience: 5 years in automation within the dairy industry and/or food industry.

Knowledge of:

         Computer software and basic mathematical skills are required (must be able to convert US to metric, read a tape measure, caliper and micrometer).

Experience in:

         PLC programming, HMI interfacing, analog controls and various communication protocols.

Behavioral/Physical skills:

         The ideal candidate must have the following attributes/skills: strong attention to detail and accuracy, personal qualities of tact and dependability, able to work well with others, clear communication abilities (written and verbal), ability to take responsibilities by troubleshooting equipment with minimal support from Manager.
