Summary:

Directs and coordinates activities of production department(s) in meat processing facility, while improving the efficiency of manpower, yields, materials and machines by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Other duties may be assigned.

         Provide leadership to employees through effective communication, coaching, training and development.

         Act as a member of the management team and perform other duties as directed by position or required by the General Manager.

         Manage the scheduling of production: set work schedules and set departmental goals and expectations.

         Supervisory responsibility includes management of employee performance, hiring, discipline, development, recourse planning and training.

         Develop, monitor and implement department budgets and production forecasts.

         Develop, analyze, and present reports, including but not limited to, forecasts, productivity and safety.

         Facilitate workflow management, workforce scheduling, and employee placement to ensure the facility and company goals are successfully met or exceeded. Provide technical expertise to resolve production issues and create and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

         Manage departmental procurement of supplies and equipment.

         Utilize problem solving techniques, teamwork building strategies, process control, and continuous process improvement tools to meet or exceed the facility key operating statistics.

         Plan and monitor throughput and efficiencies for the department. Monitor and take appropriate timely improvement action to meet production quality and quantity.

         Responsible for implementing and maintaining safety standards as required by law and company policy.

         Manage compliance with all regulatory bodies including USDA, FDA, EPA, OSHA, etc.

         Review production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.

         Plan production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.

         Prepare operational schedules and coordinate manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications.

         Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications, and operating or production problems.

         Inspect machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.

         Develop or revise standard operational and working practices and observe workers to ensure compliance with standards.

         Resolve worker grievances or submit unsettled grievances to Human Resources Manager and/or General Manager for action.

         Compile, store, and retrieve production data.

         Revises production schedules and priorities as result of equipment failure or operating problems.

         Consults with engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment in order to improve production and quality of products.

Education/ Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 3+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:

Must be Bilingual. Ability to understand written and verbal instructions.  Ability to effectively read, speak and communicate in English and Spanish. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before small groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquires or complaints.

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to interact and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to react, respond and solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of various computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation and/or ERP software as well as the ability to type and perform 10 key by touch if germane to your position.

Certificates & Licenses:

Must be HACCP Certified.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manages multiple employees. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
