Summary:

The primary responsibilities of the Quality Systems Specialist are to maintain and assist in the development, implementation and improvement of policies and procedures associated with food safety and quality systems and act as secondary SQF Practitioner.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

         Develop, maintain and improve food safety and quality systems under the guidance of the Director of Quality Assurance.

         Maintain physical and electronic documentation in an organized and functional manner.

         Monitor pre-requisite programs for effectiveness. Review documentation for completeness and accuracy.

         Perform duties of Quality Assurance Technicians, as required.

         Perform chemical and microbiological analysis, as needed.

         Provide technical assistance to operations in regard to process deviation reports and product specifications.

         Assist in the communication and training of affected personnel on new and revised programs.

         Work closely with Operations and assist in product development including creation of specifications, submitting labels for approval and coordinating shelf life studies.

         Assist in product traceability and mock recall exercises, 3rd party and customer audits.

         Perform duties of SQF practitioner in absence of Director of Quality Assurance.

         Other tasks, as assigned.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

Education and/or Experience:

         Associateís degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and a minimum of 3 years related experience in a USDA manufacturing facility or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

         Bachelorís degree (B.S.) preferred.

         Certifications in SQF and HACCP are required.

         Experience in implementing and maintaining SQF systems.

         Experience in managing multiple projects and assignments.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret and extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook) or equivalent software. Advanced knowledge of database maintenance preferred.
