As the R&D Manager you will be responsible for providing leadership and technical expertise to a growing set of R&D projects in bakery applications. You will lead a talented team of bakery technology professionals to develop new company products, build sales and contribute in a meaningful way to profitability. Occasional travel to customers with our sales team and trade show attendance. Reports directly to the company President.

Responsibilities & Duties:

·         Maintain a complete understanding of company products and their technical attributes.

·         Direct research and development programs, using “hands-on” technical expertise to create new ingredient systems for baked foods, line extensions and improved production processes.

·         Work collaboratively with R&D/Technical Services departments of established and prospective customers to incorporate company ingredients that help create innovative finished products for clients.

·         Oversee food safety systems and quality control.

·         Coordinate ingredient sourcing, testing of new ingredients, functional evaluations and approval process with Purchasing,

·         Assist in creating sales formulas, client literature and contributing to a digital technical library.

·         Stay abreast of culinary and consumer trends and advancements in ingredient and bakery processes.

·         Build reputation for customer-focused creativity by delivering new ideas and bakery solutions.


·         Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Bakery or Food Science

·          5-10 years of R&D experience with in the baking or food industry.

Candidates should possess in-depth ingredient and formulating knowledge and experience with stabilizers for bakery products.

·         R&D experience in pies, cakes, cookies, toppings, and/or frozen desserts.

In-plant bakery, laboratory and process experience is preferred.

·         Demonstrated ability to manage R&D Products

·         Strong communication skills (verbal, written, presentation), problem solving, critical thinking, organization, planning and management skills.

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
