Summary:

The QA Director is responsible for:

         Overseeing all aspects of Food safety, Food quality & Regulatory

for the products the company sells.

         Documentation of all products sold.

         Answering customer complaints or inquiries.

         Directing and maintaining a competent workforce to carry out these responsibilities.

         Reports to the Executive VP & to the President/CEO.

 

Primary
Responsibilities:

To include the following, other duties as assigned:

      Audits Be prepared for customer, governmental and other audits.

o   Present requirements

o   Future requirements

o   New audits as needed

         Certifications Maintain and revise certifications as needed, such as:

o   SQF level 3

o   Organic

o   Kosher

o   Other as needed

      Prepare for withdrawals or recalls.

      Create and maintain systems to store and recall information.

       Be a technical resource for the organization.

o   Testing methods and applicable of these methods

o   Processing methods (current and/or those available)

o   Food safety and sanitation

       Be an ambassador for the company in every activity.

       Manage/direct the quality staff of 8: (QA Mgr, QA Techs, Regulatory,

SQF Coordinator)

o   Develop and maintain a technically competent staff

o   Maintain a positive attitude in this staff.

o   Prepare for contingencies

       Provide technical expertise and opinions on items, as needed.

       Create and maintain documentation for products.

o   Create documents for samples

o   Provide information as required for customers

o   Maintain certifications (organic, kosher, gluten free, etc.)

       Be a resource for plant safety.

        Act as liaison between Manufacturing, Lab, Purchasing, Operations, Medical Communication and/or vendors in regard to material usage, acceptance and customer/consumer questions.

       Participate in recruiting, educating and training facility employees.

       Participate in special projects and studies, as required.

 

Management
Responsibilities:

Responsible for the QA staff and Documentation Staff of 8

(QA Mgr, QA Techs, Regulatory, SQF Coordinator)

Experience:

Education and/or
Experience:

         Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

         At least 3 years of experience in an industrial laboratory setting.

         HACCP Certification

Language Skills:

         Able to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, and legal documents.

         Able to respond orally and in print to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

         Able to effectively present information to management and specialty teams.

         Able to effectively direct laboratory personnel in their day to day duties.

 

Mathematical Skills:

Able to use mathematics to demonstrate trends and develop visual representations of data that will help people understand complex patterns. The use of statistical tools is extremely important.

Reasoning Ability:

Able to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Able to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) as needed to communicate to lay persons the technicalities.

 

Other Skills and
Abilities:

         Knowledge of chemistry and microbiology principles.

         Experience in quality systems and manufacturing operations.

         Able to manage an internal group as well as interact efficiently with external groups.

         Able to effectively communicate with customers

 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee:

         Is regularly required to talk and listen. The employee frequently

         Is required to sit, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste and smell.

         Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to visually compare differences in products.

 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The job may entail travel one or two times a year. Must adhere to company GMPs.
