Assistant Plant Manager


The Department Supervisor is a working position and is responsible for oversight of the daily operation of the Whey Department including organizing and assigning work duties, maintaining a safe work environment for achieving the objectives set, in order to provide and ensure that the Companyís customers, both external & internal, are continuously receiving quality products, while maintaining a safe, effective and harmonious work environment.

Essential Duties &

         Required to work without direct supervision.

         Understand and follow; all the Companyís policies, procedures and protocols. Ensure safety, sanitation, GMPís (Good Manufacturing Practices) and quality policies and manufacturing procedures are followed.

o   Immediately notify management of all unsafe conditions or situations.

         Following SOPís ensures that all daily manufacturing tasks are completed in a safe, effective and timely manner, to provide the highest quality products and services to our internal and external customers.

o   Monitor in-process parameters and product specís to ensure that they meet customer and quality expectations.

o   Ensure GMPís, quality control, cleaning, and sanitation procedures are followed.

o   Notify dept. management of all deviations that could result in product failure to meet required specs.

         Responsible for monitoring and reporting inventory levels of all consumable items.

         Assist the other departmental Production Supervisors with planning and coordinating the daily manufacturing activities.

o   Assist the Assistant Plant Manager in evaluating and training production operators in the safe effective function of their job.

         Ensures all equipment under his/her control is in a safe, clean & effective working condition.

         Verifies daily production documentation, makes correction for input errors, program faults, and equipment breakdown.

o   Including accurate data entry into a site wide MIS.

         Communicates daily with the Assistant Plant Manager.

         Other duties as required.


Qualifications &

         Minimum high school diploma or a general education degree (GED) required.

         Previous dairy or whey processing experience preferred. In lieu of previous whey processing experience, a minimum of 2 years previous dairy processing experience is required for consideration. This must include a combination of hands on experience / time spent in separation, homogenization, pasteurization, process control, blending equipment operation, membrane processing, evaporation, spray dying and proven sanitation skills in a dairy manufacturing environment.

         Knowledge of the mechanics of fluid systems, chemistry, physics and equipment required.

         Basic math skills to calculate production yields, and understand weights and measures are required.

         Demonstrated and documented safe working habits coupled with good attendance is required.

         Shift work is required. Must be able to work flexible hours and weekends.

         Proficiency in current position is required.

         Previous use of high volume, highly automated processing equipment preferred, including knowledge of the proper use of equipment, materials and supplies.

         Demonstrated effective organizational, time management & problem solving skills required.

         Minimally one yearsí experience in a leadership role preferred.

         Must have a working knowledge of an electronic inventory management system.

         Must have excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

         Must be proficient with Microsoft office applications (strong excel skills preferred).

         Must have excellent communication skills and be able to verbally communicate, understand, and write in the English language.

         Must maintain an active Fork-Lift Operators license.

         Must be able to read, interpret and understand written and oral directions.

         Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies.


Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time.†

The employee:

         Is required to use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms on a repetitive basis.†

         Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, push/pull exerting up to 110 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.†

Requires visual acuity to review written documentations; ability to hear and understand speech.† There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.†† There is exposure to a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, and exposure to heat/cold temperature changes.
