Salary Range:

$50K-$65K (maybe more depending on your experience)

The Food Safety Specialist/SQF Practitioner will be responsible for developing, administering and maintaining applicable Food Safety Programs & Policies; implementation and continuous improvement of food safety focused programs including but not limited to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), SQF Food Safety and Quality systems and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP).

Duties &

Implement, maintain, and improve SQF (Safety Quality Food) program and cGMP Good Manufacturing Practices.  Effectively work with production team and other members of quality team to develop and maintain a robust and effective food safety and quality system.  Evaluate food safety concerns in facility and implement programs to eliminate hazards.


Educate and instruct plant personnel in recommended quality control testing, equipment sanitation and general sanitation and housekeeping practices. Confirm these procedures are being maintained.


Perform internal and supplier GMP compliance audits.


Serve as Quality Assurance liaison to internal and external customers for compliance audits.  Host all internal and external audits (SQF, customer, FDA).Responsible for writing audit responses for SQF audit findings.


Manage the internal audit program, including CAPA facilitation and tracking.


Develop SQF procedures and train employees on SQF procedures.  Develop, maintain and manage the Quality Assurance training program.  Write SOPs and work instructions.


Assist Director to develop and improve Quality Assurance systems and processes according to SQF code.


Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives. 

Manage the regulatory filing system.

Perform annual product reviews.


Review and remain current with FDA and other regulatory body regulations and guidance documents and determine applicability.


Ensures compliance to and audits HACCP plans.

Performs GMP audits and ensures compliance.


Possess excellent written and verbal skills and be proficient at Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.


Responsible for maintaining food safety, employee safety, quality standards and Customer specifications.


Report any food safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action

Other duties as assigned.



  • SQF Practitioner certification.
  • Bachelor’s Degree - Preference in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related Engineering field.
  • 3 – 5 years of experience of Quality Assurance/Control in a food manufacturing facility or laboratory.
