Summary:

The Cheese and Butter Technologist is responsible for recipes, testing and quality of the product at the Company. The position reports to and works closely the Compliance Manager to review the results of production and make changes to the recipe, ingredients, procedures and packaging to ensure the highest level of quality. The person appointed will be expected to maintain and improve the safety and quality of the facility by executing a predetermined plan. Excellent communication and active listening skills are needed in order to be able to coordinate strategy with the rest of the management team.

This position is primarily scheduled during 1st shift. Weekends and 2nd shift are expected on occasion. The salaried position will average 45 hours a week.

 

Essential Job
Functions:

Quality Assurance Responsibilities

·         Monitoring of PPE, GMP and SSOPs.

·         Conduct training classes on the science and procedures of Cheese and Butter making.

o   Plant wide refresher yearly

o   Retraining after incidences

·         Responsible for tracking the cheese production metrics.

·         Prepare 3rd party non-conformity reports.

·         Customer follow-up.

·         Responsible for tracking butter production metrics to improve operations.

·         Manage Microbiological results.

o   Review sampling and testing procedures

o   Verify Results and prepare COA’s for out bound shipments

·         PH monitoring.

·         Quality Hold Management.

o   Tracking, Identification of issue, retraining, and determine final disposition of product

·         Verify proper analytical results for each recipe.

·         Oversee Process and sampling production.

·         Train personnel in use of lab equipment where applicable.

·         Conduct studies and research to improve yield and quality of products.

 

Required Skills:

·         Proven ability to deliver results.

·         In depth knowledge of Food Science; knowledge of the Dairy preferred.

·         Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

·         Ability to articulate effectively; both verbal and in writing.

·         Highly personable, trustworthy.

·         Proficient in operating a computer and associated applications (MS Office).

        o     Possess the skill to develop and manage Excel Spreadsheets

·         Ability to motivate staff about the importance of quality and sanitation.

·         Ability to develop and explain detailed spreadsheets and present to staff.

·         Ability to perform presentations, knowledgeably answer questions and provide timely follow-up.

·         Strong and successful management and communication skills.

 

Required
Experience and
Education:

·         Experience working in a food manufacturing environment.

·         Experience working in a Lab environment.

·         Successful track record of delivering results.

·         Bachelor degree with an emphasis on Food Science and/or equivalent experience.
